Dad is shooting a QUAD 400 and it has a thump to it.

One thing I will say is to never manually cock it my hand, I learned the hard way its stupid inaccurate when doing this use a cocking string or the onboard pull system.

Are there such things as "youth" crossbows?

I seem to work on Barnett's the most of all the other brands, dont know if its a quality thing, or if all the ones coming in for repair are because a few too many cold ones on friday nights (been the reason for a few). Typically i prefer to sell the Ten Point, or Parker ones, a few of the Parkers are pretty good. Both have limited lifetime warranty compared to the 5 yr Barnett. Have the stryker 380 and the Desert Stryker they discontinued and arent overly impressed with either one. All the bows are good but i feel like some are better for ME, not the case with everyone though. I would recommend shooting as many as you can to find the one you like, just like a reg bow. Compound x-bows are also stronger in the power stroke than recurve and its easier to find cases for.
        Hope this helps

I went to Cabela's early this morning before the crowds got there and shot about every X-bow that they would let me shoot. The Parker x-bows were super loud although not too heavy. The Excaliber's were too bulky and heavy but were not as loud. After shooting several I settled on the Barnett Ghost 350. It was lighter than most and fairly loud but faster than comparable bows. It is also very accurate and seems to have a pretty good scope with BDC reticle that is lighted with adjustable brightness. It now has about 30 to 35 shots on it and so far all is good.

Agree that Dave at Wyvern Creations is the guy with the crossbow knowledge.

I bought the Wicked Ridge (TenPoint) INVADER from him.
Came with 6 bolts. I also bought the BowJax kit to quiet the crossbow down.

It did but a muzzle on the twang. Shoots fast and accurate.

For those with noise issues you may have something amazing to put on a crossbow after the ATA show. Been told amazing noise reduction will soon be available.

                More info to come.

                  Ghost 350 update

Just for grins I broke out my chrono and tested the new Ghost 350.
With Barnett factory bolts weighed @ 424gr with target points it shot back to back speeds of 329.4 and 329.6 fps. Not too bad for only a 12 power stroke.
No danged wonder it blows thru a Dead Stop big bag and about 1/4" into a 3/4" plywood backing.
The X-bow seems to have quieted down some now that it has about 35 shots thru it or else I am getting used to the noise it makes. The thin plastic inside limb shims at the riser pockets have puckered up just like they said it might. I called the factory and they verified that this is normal and the bow is safe to continue shooting.
I doubt a nervous old doe can duck this thang at 15 yds, maybe 20 but she better be getting a big head start.
