    need permission from neighbor

Just in case my deer runs over there I want prior permission to retrieve. The only time I've met em was a few weeks ago (couple weeks after we moved in) because the mailman delivered their stuff here. When I knocked on the door they were real paranoid "why is someone knocking on the door?" "dude who could it be" "should we answer" stuff like that. Only seen em outside (driving to or from house excluded) twice. I am not sure how to approach this. The guy that answered thanked me and asked if we just moved in told him yes and he introduced himself. That's it the dudes name is Keifer. A fellow tbh'r said he used run over deer before but dunno how they'd react to that. I figure that will work on the lady across the street but the neighbors beside me are able to see me Target shooting.

I really can't think of anything other than "hey I'm your neighbor Chris. I have talked to the city administrator and have permission to harvest deer but I don't want to break any laws so if it should run into your yard would I have permission to recover it?"

They have erected a high fence out of chicken wire to keep deer out but its old and rusted/collapsed so I think they aren't a fan of the deer as they want em out.

This sounds good! There is only one way to find out how they would feel.... Just gotta ask 'em!

Honesty is the best policy. Does not hurt to have your permission written on paper either.

I intend to ask. Not having asked yet is the reason I haven't gotten my bow out of the closet yet. Not even gonna draw on one till I do. I just wasn't sure of my quote was film enough or anyone had a more neutral request for permission

I think your idea is fine. You are neighbors and you're being neighborly. Are they older? If the chicken wire repair is not too big a project could you help them with it if they are?

The fella I met is maybe late 20's or real early 30's. I guess ill just suck it up. Worst they can do is say no and I will either not harvest in my yard or tie my dog up on that corner of the yard (half Australian sheperd and half great pyranese) so he's big enough to scare even the bucks away when he goes out

This sounds like a great back up plan!

Just ask and get in writing if you can. Even let them know that you will not carry a gun or bow on you when retrieve your game.

Luckily for me, I've had the same neighbors where I hunt for the last 15 years. I don't need it in writing and they wonder why I call each year to ask. I tell them I just want to make sure I respect their property and not enter it without them knowing I may be there during this time of year.
