Brazos County Hunting Info.

I had a great meeting with a landowner a few nights ago and got access to hunt 130 acres that’s 5 miles from my house in College Station. I’ve been out there several times scouting and have seen a ton of deer, but mostly does and small bucks. I also heard 3 gunshots last night that sounded fairly close.

For you guys that know/hunt the area, what’s the avg. size of the bucks? Prevailing wind direction? When do they start chasing if they haven’t already? When is the second rut?

Any tips, thoughts, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Which side of the county? I've seen good deer on the east side and have seen some good ones taken there.

Right outside College Station in between College Station and Snook. I sat out tonight under a tree just trying to scout and had 18 deer within 50 yards at one point, and saw probably another 20 or so running around on the other side of the property. I guess the weather got 'em up and movin'. There is a ton of deer here I just don't know what to expect buck-wise??? The only ones we've seen so far are little spikes, 4's and 6's.

If the acorns are like they are here in neighboring Madison Co. feel lucky to have seen all those deer. If they are moving, you should see any decent bucks that are in the area over the next week to week and a half.

Hunt until 11am. I have noticed that sometimes the young bucks move at first light and then seems like the big boys drift in at 10am. That is in Lee county which is not too far from you. Also if you have a feeder and they come in don't bet on them coming to the feeder. Some big bucks are searching for does and won't stop so be prepared to grunt to stop them then whack them.
