Question for the East Texas Hunters...

I know deer size and quality can vary by region... Regions of the US, regions within a state, and even regions within counties.
I am new to east texas region, currently around Longview. And we all know there are no deer in east texas but if there were...

My question to all the East Texas hunters, Where are the best areas and counties for deer size and quality?

Cherokee county has always put out a monster deer every year...

but there is bucks and nice deer in East Texas. East Texas is so thick and wooded and usually plentiful of so many things that many of the REAL BIG NICE DEER die of old age and never get seen.

I've seen good bucks in Orange, Newton, Sabine, and San Augustine countines with my own eyes. That being said, just what = a good buck to you ?

No deer in east Texas. One must head south to the golden triangle

Most of my EastTX Hunting has been in Nacogdoches and Tyler counties. Lots of deer both places. I've seen more of what I consider to be good bucks the past three years than I had seen in the previous 20. However, I am spending more time in the woods since both of my boys are now hunting.

Anderson, Cherokee and Henderson come to mind

With the new ARs there should be several producing some nice bucks in the near future

I've seen some good ones come out of Trinity and Polk counties.

I have a small place in Newton county and people have told me there are good deer but I've not seen any

I rarely see real good bucks on our place in Anderson Cty. However, just 1 mile west of our place is Gus Engeling wma with some bruisers and even further west is Richland wma with more bruisers. East of our place you hit the Neches area and seem to be good deer there also. maybe it's a river thing with the trinity and neches river bottoms.

I have hunted exclusively in North Nacogdoches County since 2000 and there are some good bucks that come out of this area. We own our place so we try to manage it right by letting the deer get the one thing they need most to get big and that is age. I have a cousin that has killed three bucks that scored better than 150 out of this area with my personal best a 147. If you follow Wolf Outdoors, they have a very good East Texas Big Buck contest that you can see some really good East Texas Deer.

every county around you. any lease that has management minded people have good deer. that goes for anywhere in TX.

its not what county it is the kind of lease you are on.

If there were deer in east TX, and you wanted to know strictly about the biggest I would say Houston County.
