    E. Tx coyote question

Last night and this morning Wheelie and i noticed that the coyotes in east tx have a completely different howl than in west tx. They didnt have a high pitched yip or join in a pack but were all solitary and had a long deep howl. Are we crazy or do they really sound different?

All the coyotes in Hardin county have the high pitched yelp and the group howls as well. Maybe you were near the wolves that all the old-timers in East Texas say still exist! That or it was werewolves!!!

sippy it's not where you are at all that is the difference, mature lone coyotes will howl back and forth to each other, the dogs you are hearing howling instead of yipping are 90% of the time solitary males. we had a group of coyotes around my old lease in nome and 9 out of 10 hunts we would hear the dogs yipping and barking and then shortly after you would hear 2-3 males deep howling long and slow back and forth, we actually asked our gamewarden and he said this, If talked to people from all over texas that hear the same thing!

Coyotes have lots of vocal communications

The howl often means ....... I'm over here, this is my territory

It wasn't coyotes at all Sippy! That was the poachers howling back and forth to let each other know where they were poaching at and scare off out of town hunters. Welcome to E Tx Sippy!!!

I was going to say you might have been hearing a house dog howling

Only place I have seen where coyotes are different is on the Callaghan in Webb county, they howled all day and all night

It was me. I bought a Primos "Hot Dog" call and was in Cass Co this weekend practicing. How'd I sound?

i know this is off topic but on my old lease in llano we actually were communicating with a yote just off of our own vocals, ive never ever had it happen before but we started out with it just to mess around but when the ol yote responded we were all amazed!

Our yotes in ETX sound the same as the ones we had on CTX.
