    Screw in steps?

Does anyone use screw in steps for their tree stands? If so what is your opinions?

I use them a lot. They work great, just don't place them too far apart

Used to but the property I hunted banned them about two years ago. They work OK. Predrill a smaller hole to get them started. Have gone to strap on sections and like them better. Can remove the bottom section to make it tougher to get to your stand by others.

They are devastating to trees, and VERY unsafe should you take a tumble out of the tree. About the only advantage they have is price. Rapid rails, or climbing ladder is a much better and safer choice IMO.

If it is you land then OK, but I believe that are Federal restrictions on putting permanent spikes in trees.

that is all i use. i bought a driving tool that makes ingress and egress of the steps a breeze. before i had to carry my drill motor to start holes in the rock hard oak and mesquite.

I totally agree. Too many stories of guys slipping and the tree step causing serious injuries.

I had always used them until I read a story about a guy climbing up and got to the top and the one his weight was on broke and he fell. He didn't hit the ground right away though because a step below him caught him between the bicep and the humorous and he got to hang there till his bicep tore, then he fell.
I quit using them that day.
