    Computer keeps Shutting Down!?!?!

My laptop, a Toshiba Satellite, which I edit my videos/hunts on with Pinnacle Studio 14, keeps shutting completely down during the "make movie" process. I still have plenty of room on the computer...getting frustrating. I was able to get a short 30 second video to completely finish "making", but the last several tries with a longer video, it crashes.

Any ideas or experiences with this?

    Any suggestions for a cure?

My first thought would be the fan or power supply but if it is doing it just when doing a specific thing inside the same program I would try reinstalling the software.

I thought about doing that...I'm thinking I will lose all the uncreated, edited videos though. That would be like erasing artwork. No way I could re edit those things the same...

I know with the software I do support for you can also try a "refresh" by installing right over the top of the current install and you wouldn't lose data. I don't know anything about Pinnacle Studio though so I wouldn't try that without contacting them first. Also, with our program there is a specific data folder that can be saved out before doing an uninstall. It can be placed back in the program folder after a reinstall to restore the data. You might do some research to see if there is something similar with this program.

sounds like fan cooling system, as it starts getting really hard when doing video related stuff... happens on my hp all the time. video card maybe. only happens when video skyping or playing a movie, or anything streaming

only thing that makes it work without shutting down is one of those cooling pads with built in fans

Me either. I was told as long as my movies are save in the program, I'll be able to access them. We shall see!!!

is this something new its doing or has it done that before on a long video?

                        plugged into power outlet?

If reinstalling doesn't work it is going to be a hardware problem, depending on how old it is it might not be able to handle it. those laptops weren't made for serious video editing.

I know they weren't. I'm not doing anything different than I've ever done in the past. I've edited over 200 videos with the same setup with no issues.

I'd hate to have to get a real editing setup!!!

                            Hey HD,

I run Studio on a newer PC desktop and experienced problems with slow rendering and freeze ups.

In a few cases I had to uninstall Studio, and reinstall, and that fixed the problem.

(Sometimes the program gets corrupted during install)

The other time the video card was the culprit.

I had to replace it with another.

Check your Specs and see what card you have, and see if it can handle Studio.

In my case the Video card just quit.

Give me a shout, and let me know if this works for you.

I know how frustrating it can be HD….

                            Hope This Helps,

The uninstall, reinstall worked!!!! Why my brain did not think of this a month ago, I have no idea!!!!!!

                              Thanks y'all!!!!

Edit: As soon as I hit submit here, it crashed on a video....lmao!!!

I'm gunna try putting my computer on the table with the corner of it, where the fan is, over the a/c vent.

                              This is crazy!!!!
