Local TV Channels at the Deer Lease

I have a question about receiving local TV channels at the deer lease.

I brought one of my DirectTV boxes out to the lease so we get all channels with the exception of local channels.

Last year I bought a big outdoor antenna and one of the other guys was supposed to buy on of the analog to digital converter boxes but never did.

My question is this: Is it necessary to have an analog to digital converter box in order to watch local channels over an antenna? Or can we just wire the antenna straight to the TV and watch local channels?

We are getting into the time of the year where the good college games are on the local channels as well as NFL!

Well, I just thought of another question.

Do the Directv boxes themselves have a built in digital converter? I know they have an input for an antenna.

Yeah, I live in Houston and the lease is in the hill country so for some reason it does not work. I have called DTV and they said they cant do anything.

The local channels are spot beam - they only work in a narrow geographic region.

Short of having the converter or a newer tv the only thing you can do is pay for another account.

Direct tv has a special package for rv'rs.....

Distant Network Services (DNS) programming of ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC network feeds from New York and Los Angeles (8 channels) for $15.00 per month. One PBS and one CW feed may also be available depending upon your location, for an additional $2.50 per month per network.

If the antenae is a uhf one and it is in range of the local signal, it does not need a converter as long as your tv is a digital one. If you bought the tv in the last 5 and probably 10 years, then it is a digital tv.

Like acearrow said.........local tv is broadcast in digital so if your TV is digital then you don't need the converter box. I have a big HD attenna at the lease but my tv isn't digital so I have a box.....if I would just break down and buy a small flatscreen I wouldn't need the box. It is on the list of things to buy...just haven't done it.

Hopefully by the end of the season I will have another Directv box to take to the lease and I will be set.
