Come on, you have to admit it was kind of a funny mistake. And if someone really had been being racist, someone would have said something very similar to what you said in your op.

Sometimes you just have to make it happen with what you have available. A few weeks ago I was getting ready for deer season and I had bought a single cattle panel to close in a fence where a barb wire gate used to be to keep cows away from a feeder. Well the cattle panels come in 16' pieces and
I figured out I was about 3-4 feet short when I stood the panel up. So, I had to make do with a little engineering and ratchet straps . (The other end is wired to a fence post) Not the best way to do it but with what I had it was the best option and it's kept the cows out so far!!

I even reinforced it with the slack I had left over as you can see in the second pic.
