My dad and I went out to the lease this weekend to get in some dove hunting. In the morning we shot our bows for a good 4 hours and then had lunch. At about 2 in the afternoon we went to a small tank that had water from some recent rains we have had in Hudspeth county. We setup under some trees just to chat for a few hours before the dove start to fly. We had a great conversation and boy was it relaxing! At about 5 the dove usually start to fly by in small numbers and steadily pick up until about 6:30 at which time they start coming in like crazy. 5:30 came and hardly any dove where flying by, regards, we were having a fine time conversing. Then in the middle of our conversation my dad spots a shadow moving towards the water so he gets up and starts stalking what he thinks is a javelina. I stayed behind in the event it got startled and ran back my way. So my dad makes it in to 14 yards and sees the javelina about to drink some water. The javelina looks up and is about to jet when my dad fires a single shot from his double barrel 20 gauge. To our surprise the javelina flips and drops right at that spot. He did not get up and run a single yard! What an amazing way to end the day. We had such a good chat that it wouldn't of mattered if any doves came in or even if the javelina didn't that it would have been considered a great day. However, the javelina put icing on the cake! What a day we had. memories for a life time. That is what hunting is all about! We just want to say good luck to you all heading out next weekend. We hope you have a great time and most of all create some of the best memories of your life.
