Last minute decision to do the doe and management hunts north of Meridian again this season. Here are the basics...
$150 per hunter for the weekend. Non-shooting guests are $50 each for the weekend. A weekend hunt includes Friday evening through Sunday after the morning hunt.
This is MLD hunting and does not apply to your personal TPWD hunting license tags. Doe are $125 each. Management bucks are $550 each. Management bucks on this ranch are any 8 pointer. Anything more than 8 pt is good for the $550 as long as it's a mature buck (5.5 and older). Low fence is protein fed, and there are some decent deer being seen. A really big 10 pt sporting 8" brows was seen two days ago. I'll post pics from a month ago from the protein feeders on this thread shortly.
Ranch is approx 3,000 acres low fence about an hour SW of Fort Worth and about twenty minutes north of Meridian.
Gun or bow. Plenty of stands for however you wish to hunt. Gun hunters...big elevated box blinds, ground box blinds, feeders, etc. Bow setups are mostly all double setups with ladder stands, lockons or ground blinds with options for right or left handed shots. Feeders are in place plus some hand feeding of some supplemental attractants.
Camp is an old farm house with most of the amenities of home including a kitchen (fridge, microwave, oven, stove top), two bathrooms (one with a shower), plenty of beds (can sleep up to ten people, satellite tv, space heaters. Plenty of room to spread out outside with an elevated fire pit, cold storage for deer, skinning rack, old GlenDale buck 3D target and place to sight rifles in.
Hunts are what I'd call semi-guided. It's not a day lease where you get to drive all over the place. You can pick and choose where and how you want to hunt. We'll work together on getting everyone to and from the stands. You can start hunting as early as Friday afternoon upon arrival and hunt until mid-morning on Sunday.
The season is wide open at this point. I got on a lease in Childress this season, so Jay (justhrowit) is going to help me manage these hunts. We're going this weekend to get stuff situated, tweak setups, throw up a new stand or two. We will plan a few set weekends for hunts, but at this point anyone wanting a hunt can pretty much pick their weekend.
I'll try to get a few hunters from last season to chime in on their experience. It was a rough season as most of Texas experienced, I think. This season is nothing like last season. Not many acorns and natural browse is at a premium. Deer are hammering the corn hard. The ranch is a beautiful place, and the camp is tailor made for a weekend getaway without driving four or five hours from D/FW.
Will post pics shortly will follow up with a few pics of the ranch this weekend after we get back home. PM me or justhrowit if you want to plan a hunt.
