You can pick up the 21 inch iMac for $1,049 and get a free printer to boot. I know he doesn't need a printer so sell it and the iMac is even cheaper.

IMO Mac is cheaper in the long run because of longevity. Take that Best Buy machine to the Geek Squad a few times when it goes nuts on you and the Mac looks like a bargain.

I agree mac is a great machine, but if you read between the lines the imac is a intel i5 processor, amd graphics card, memory and storage probably from main stream companies..

point is they are built just like PCs.. OSX is a superior operating system by far. But fact is if you go the route I initially suggested with an i7 or AMD phenom II X6 you get the same parts with a different OS..

all of which will last forever.. come with 1 year manufature warranties etc..

ASUS is a hell of a company too. I wouldnt even buy the geek squad crap if I was you.

But if the mac is an option that is a nice computer.. Don't have to deal with virus software and all that junk.. Worst case scenario if you need to run some windows only programs you buy Parallels software and run windows inside your mac =)
