    Fletching Arrows

Just started, cost me a pretty penny so I hope it works out. Bought the Bohning Fletching Kit, Stripper and some glue. I'm set, any tips?

I use loctite superglue gel. I also clean the arrows with 91 percent alcohol after stripping the vanes off.

I just fletch mine 2 days ago. take your time, if you mess up just clean the arrow off and start over. Cool thing about fletching your own arrows is you can do any color combination you want.

What he said... Plus buy some wraps, they will save you the headache of cleanin/strippin them if you need/want to re fletch.

Take your time and don't get discouraged if you have to redo several in the beginning

There is a balance of how much glue to use, too much and it gets to running and gumming up the clamp, too little and you get air pockets under the vane which weakens your bond

I use Gorilla super glue but you may do better starting out with Platinum Fletch tite or slow setting super glue to give you more time to get everything where you want it

            Good luck

              The thing about wraps....
You'll have a clean shaft when you pill them off.
But, if you have to replace one vane,,,,, you have to replace all of em.

Javi told me to always use
              1. At least 91% on your alcohol! If you can find a higher grade, then get it and use it.
              2. Make a mark on your jig that you'll use every time to line up the base of your vane.
              3. As long as you're using a release, then glue your vanes as far back on your shaft as you can as long as it doesn't interfere with the string.
              4. One problem I've seen, is when you glue down a vane, sometimes if you press down to hard on the shaft, you can unseat the arrow from the nock hole. Make sure you watch that and once you turn the jig, I'd check the seating again just for good habit.

That's about all I can think of at the moment.
              Any questions, I'd ask Javi
              PS, I'm no expert... Lol

I found that carbon express glue has worked best for me by far! Way better than other glues I have used. Right now I am trying that blue glue stuff, I forget who makes it but it is blue till it dries then its clear. I havent shot any arrows i used this glue with yet so I hope it holds good. I cannot find CX glue instore anywhere when I happen to think about it while shopin.

I hope you enjoy fletching as much as I do man.

Take the Fletch Jig back and get the Shrink Wrap Type. They work great and if you mess one up shooting you can cut off and have a new one on and be shooting it again in 5 minutes.

Super glue gel works great for me. be careful to not damage the carbon when you clean off old glue for a refletch. Wraps save scrapping hassle but add tail weight.

No matter what jig or glue you use if you don't prep the shaft and vanes properly you have wasted your time. Alcohol is good but 100% acetone is better. Wipe down anywhere the fletch contacts the shaft. Don't forget to clean the fletches too.
