    AR guys, Build or Buy??

Looking to get my first AR and am pretty sure I'll be going with Rock River Arms. My question is whether it is cheaper to build or buy one. Funds are tight so I need to save at every chance I can. I think with the help of my gun buddies and the Internet, building is very much an option if it's cheaper than buying. So what say you?

When I bought mine I was told it was quite a bit cheaper to build.............I just don't have the time to fool with it.

You can buy a basic gun as cheap as you can build one if you shop. If you are after one tricked out, build it.

Anymore you really can if you shop around and then just upgrade it as you want it. Building your own is pretty cool though. Built the first AR I ever owned.

Pass on the RRA, there are much better options.
          buy once, cry once.

This is my first post and the one thing I can have some idea of what I am talking about. I built the first AR I ever had. It was an Armolite lower and internals with an upper from black thorne products. It is a 16" stainless bull barrel flat top. I have 780 in the entire build. You can buy them cheaper already built but, I have learned on something I am going to make go boom alot and very quickly I dont want the cheapest thing I can buy. The other side is if you are not real comfortable with your ability of building it yourself find a buddy that has built one and have them help. There are a few tricks I had to learn!! Hope this helps.

RRA is not the best but not the worst. They have some that can't be built for less. I bought one about two months ago great trigger and yes it was staked correctly.

Choosing an AR thread is like choosing a bow thread. We all have our own opnions about certain brands, aspects, likes and dislikes. Please take them as such and do plenty of your own research before making a decision. IMO

if you really want to look into building an AR.... take a look at arfcom. ar forum, with lots of guys and they know where the deals are.

I can find the all day in the $600 range now. Myself, I would get a turn key rifle and shoot the heck out of it. Find out what you like/dislike about it then build from there when you have a little more scratch. Just my $.02
