    Old Bear Recurve Safe??

My Father passed down an old bear recurve bow from the 50's and was wondering if its ok to shoot. The string looks to be in pretty good shape on it. He re-finished it a couple of times and it has no visible markings. He drilled two 3/16 size holes on one side for maybe a pin sight, but to keep in the traditional way i am not gonna use any sight. Help me out G.S.

It should be okay. Check for limb twist

I would unstring it and look the string over and it does not show signs of failing I would work some wax into it and shoot it if the limbs dont show signs of cracking. Plenty of old recurves and longbows older than that out killing critters. Whatever you do- no matter what you are feeling or going through at the moment- Never Consider Getting Rid of that bow.
You can fill the holes if you dont want them and they mat have been tapped for a quiver.

If you get a new string make sure it is NOT a fast-flight string.
