    Grip "Creak" issue......

    Guys,

I have this torqueless grip on my Mathews Dren .....

Over the past few weeks I have developed a noticeable "creak" in my grip when I draw. We're talking make a deer jump out of his skin "creak". It happens just at the first of the draw cycle and I can feel the vibraton in the grip.

I stuck this custom grip on in Feburary with the black 3M liquid weatherstripping which I was told was removeable should I ever need to replace or repair it. After the initial "creak" started two weeks ago, I spent some time heating it up to remove it, sand off the adhesive and reglue it. I could not get it to come off even after 20 and 30 minutes of heat with a hair dryer. I kept trying but to no avail. Miraculously after that session the creak stopped for two week so i figured I had just "rearranged" the adhesive when I heated it up and all is well. Fast forward to last night and it is back and twice as loud I'm shooting well but there is not a deer on this earth that couldn't hear this noise.

Any other suggestions besides more heat?? I don't want to cut it off but I will if that is my only option as I still have the original? ......Could it be dust or dirt?

    Thanks ..Jason

I would contact the guy who makes them. Both him and his wife were EXTREMELY helpful when I bought and installed one on my XT. I plan on putting one on my Dren also so I would be anxious to hear what they say. I bet they have had that question before. Good luck.

can you put some type of thinner rubber lining between the grib and the riser?

Jason, a hair dryer might not be getting hot enough. You might want to get a real heat gun. Just don't hold it too close to the wood. Also, heat it from the riser side for less stress on the wood. To remove the grip, apply a steady pressure as you heat. The 3M stuff will soften just a bit and "stretch" as it starts to move, get a new grip on the pull or pry (whatever you're using to apply the pressure), and increase the pull a bit. It should come off, but it won't ever get to a point where you can just heat it up and like hot melt, it comes right off. When you put it back on, clean all that stuff off and get yourself some 5 minute epoxy and put it on with that. If you ever need to take it off again, the 5 minute epoxy will heat up and actually "pop" the grip right off.

Good luck with it. Let us know how you make out.

hmmmm...I've had the same grip (except different color and low wrist) on my bow for several months without a problem. Did you need to sand yours before installing it? Did it fit snugly before you glued it?

pry on it some after you put the heat to it.

You're probably okay without doing anything...the cows will keep the deer from getting close enough to hear the 'creak'.
