dont want to be a downer, but you did ask. hunted there several years and never really did see or kill a good buck. good meat lease was about it. that area is sheep and goat country and our place had a lot of em. just not known for big bucks. lots of turkey though. again, didnt want to bring you down.

The buck in my avatar is from Menard.
I'd say the level of your enjoyment will depend on your expectations and what area of the state you left to go there.
100-120's are common, we had a 142" come in as the high buck last season.
Lotsa deer is the fun part, hardly ever a dull moment on stand.

hunted a day lease there the last 3 years till some knuckleheads from Ark leased it for $70 an acre this season. We shot plenty of deer and a few decent bucks. I missed a nice (nice to me anyhow) 10pt pretty tall and maybe 16" wide this year. Saw lotsa deer, turkeys, and some hogs. I loved hunting that area! Plus I had to go past hard 8 to get there so thats a plus!!

It all depends on the property and how it has been managed.
The quality genetics are there. I know of several free-ranging 180"+ deer taken from Menard Co.
Don't get discouraged by the sheep & goat comment. Some big deer have been taken off those ranches. But yes, it can be frustrating hunting w/ sheep or goats around.

My family place is on the river East of Menard. On any given morning (or evening) you could see 30+ (or more) different deer and hundreds of turkey. Problem is that probably 75-80% of them are does and the bucks that are out there are young. Our neighbors on either side basically kill anything with horns. Good news for us is that across the river is a large place that doesn't get hunted. Every now and again you can catch a decent buck who ventured across the river but you can't count on it. We've also had some problems with poaching. Our neighbor to the West lives down there (we don't) and we are 99% sure that he is the one who is coming onto our place and messing with our feeders and blinds.
It is a beautiful part of the world and if you get a large lease down there it can produce some decent deer. Smaller places are not good for the horn hunter. I love our place because I grew up on it. There are some good folks down there but there are some green toothed booger eatin backwoods hillbillies too. Those types make you want to pummel someone.
