How often do you check your TC... I have several out and have been going about every 10 days or so... Is that too much... also I hear of some of you hunting hogs off your feeders... doesn't that mess you up for Opening day... I would think you would want as little scent as you can get around your area...

TC at a feeders, I will check them one time a week +/- scent free as I can be. If i have them on a trail then I only check them every other week, also scent free as I can be. I don't hog hunt feeds heavy before deer season opens. I think scent is a big issuse any- time no matter if your hunting are just trying to get photo. After I place a TC I spray it with scent eliminator.

With todays cameras and the fast trigger speeds, why bother puttin one at a feeder. Where I hunt in E Tx, the big bucks don't go to a feeder, although they might this year with no akerns. But I like to put mine facing down a trail or over some hand thrown corn. Once I put a camera out, it could be 2 to 3 weeks before I can get back to check it. Once I check it, I usually move it to another location. Over hand thrown corn, I've gotten some big bucks either same day or next day. Same goes when I put one over a scrape, so I don't think scent is usually an issue. But to avoid scent issues, the reason I move them once I go back to check it. Plus, it helps to pattern a big buck better.

The other side of the coin
I'm just the oppisite, don't bother about scent control, there's no way I can keep my scent from all parts of the camera and or bait, if any is used. All thru June and July, I checked my tcs at least once a week. And got tons of bear pics, the best nose in the woods, would still come to the tcs. I had 3 cams in a 3 mile long drainages, identified 14 differnt bears in that area. From cubs to brusers. so I leave it to you to decide, do you need to use elaberate scent control procedures? Here's my two biggest bears, although, I really like color phase bears, I really want the black one, the lower white ribbon on that stick is 36" from ground level.

Check mine every couple weeks...basically every time I'm able to make it down to the ranch. I never bother with scent control. I've walked around my feeder in my normal clothes, checked my cam, left, and (by cam verification) have had deer show up less than an hour of me leaving the area to feed. The hogs I hunt whenever out of my stand. When the hogs are at my feeder, they keep the deer away, so I want to kill as many as I can. Never had a problem bringing in the deer this way.
