    Bermuda grass seed

Do you just spread it and water it in?? Will you get a decent stand if you do it this way? I have some wire like crappy grass in the back yard of my duplex and I just get tired of looking at an ugly yard...

Rake it in or the birds will get it.

It's probably too late in the year for you to get a stand from seed. You would do better getting a pallet of sod and chopping it up and sprigging it if you can't afford to sod it solid.

Bermuda won't seed at all this time of year and in these drought conditions. Ryegrass won't seed in the higher temperatures we're having. To be honest, you aren't going to get anything to seed right now or sod effectively. Laying sod this time of year is throwing money away no matter what anyone tells you. I've been in the landscaping business for awhile, and I recommend all my customers sod or seed before the end of May. After that you're wasting money.

You dont want to plant rye or any winter grass in the back yard for sure.
You will be out there pushing a lawn mower in Feb. In the mud. In 35 degree temps. In the wind.
            Just dont do it.

In the spring you can just throw out the seed and water it in. I did this at my house in Gatesville and it worked ok. For better faster results, scrape up the ground a little with a rake or something.

Rye will do fine I would just wait a few weeks to plant. If you can rough up the ground a little that would be helpful. Then you are going to need rain and gas for the lawn mower.

Ryegrass that is....don't confuse with Cereal Rye, which is a grain...like wheat.
