Mix cream of chicken, cream of mushroom, shredded chicken, rotel tomatos, diced onions, a little cumin, a little cayenne, and a little chicken broth in a big pot. layer a casserole dish with corn tortillas, spread cheddar/jack cheese, dump in some mixture from the pot, spread another layer of corn tortillas and reapeat cheese and mixture. End by topping off with corn tortillas and shredded cheddar/jack cheese. Place in oven on 350 for about 15-25 minutes depending on if your mixture was still hot from cooking in pot, throw oven onto broil and give the top of the cheese a good cooking until just right. The rut then starts.

Depends on what division you are hunting.

Thanksgiving to Christmas for the first rut.

Does it matter??? There are so many monster bucks on that ranch that you are bound to have one bump into you rut or not.

I have hunted the King the Kennedy my whole life. Mostly the Norias and Encino divisions of the King and all over the kennedy. The rut really ranges depending on the weather. Usually the first big cold front will get rut activity started. Then any hard freeze between just after Thanksgiving and Mid December will get it really going. It is usually kind of drawn out because of the heat and cold waves. I have seen seasons that have almost two completely different rutts when there is a strong heat wave in early-mid December. Your best bet if you are planning a hunt will be early December.

How about some hard scientific data.

Rut has nothing to do with cold fronts or freezes although I agree 100% that early Dec is awesome. The rut is not quite drawn out as much as one might think.

Here is long term data. If you need more let me know.

I have gigs worth of stuff like that above. I used to think it was totally overboard but, on our own places we have twice as much data as what we used to keep!!!!

                          This is a disease!

Their numbers are close , when rut gets close they start breaking alot of bone, I would rather hunt a couple weeks before the main swing...my favorite spot is over by the cattle feed mill...

I am heading down South of the King Ranch (West of Raymondville) for a hunt Dec. 13-17. I hope I hit they are starting to stir a little.
