The heat sensor in our 11 year old electric oven went out and the part cost is about $300 so getting a new stove is a no brainer. We are thinking about going with a gas oven. Does anyone have a rough idea on how much we would be looking at to have a tank and gas lines installed. We are pier and beam.

Propane Installation Question

We bought a tank off of craigs list and I dug the trench for the line myself. It cost us 500 dollars for them to install the line to the house, test the system, and put in 150 gallons of propane. (I think they had to recert the tank too, but I cant remember)
The plumbers ran the lines inside the house during construction.
If you, or your wife, do much baking I would recommend staying with electric. They heat more evenly and cook better than gas.
The best of both worlds is a gas top and electric oven in the same unit, but those are EXPENSIVE! Or you could get a gas cook top and a wall mount stand alone oven. My parents did that and are very happy with it.

We couldnt justify the cost of a combo unit and didnt want to give up the space for a standalone oven so we just got a regular ole gas range. No real complaints so far. Just wanted you to be aware.

Plumbing wise to get a new line in the house, you are looking I'm the price range between $500-$1,500 depending on where it will be located in the house. And do NOT have a handy man do it. Propane is not something to play around with when you and your family's safety is at stake. A licensed plumber is the only way to go.

Tank set, line to house run, appliance change over, system test and 100 gal gas cost about $850.
Remember that the gas stove you go buy will be jetted for natural gas and will need to be re-jetted for propane.
We already have a nearly new gas stove set up for propane from my mother-in-law's estate. All we would have to do is have a tank installed and run the line to the stove (along withh whatever testing/certifying that would be needed). The wife also wants a line run to the living room so we can add a backup gas heater is the power goes out. We are pier and beam so hopefully the gas line won't set us back too much.
