    stand/feeder question

If the wind is good, how many CONSECUTIVE times do you guys hunt the same stand/feeder? I'm curious.

I only have one stand that I can hunt, so as many consecutive days as my wife will let me go hunt it.

Depends on the approach and exit.

know the feeling, Devil Dog. Wife has the final say over a good wind, rut, moon...you name it.

I think it depends on how many different stands and feeders you have set up. If you have alot of land, and multiple stand set ups, I would sit in different stands as much as possible.

If a target deer is using a stand site, I hunt it as long as he's there and I don't worry about the wind. If he's there, I go after him. I almost always hunt a specific buck and I can't kill him at a stand where he's not.

We run two schools of thought on this on our ranch. One is, and it is the one I believe is that if the deer sort of get used to the human scent, then you can hunt the blind every day for several days. The deer only get nerveous or bust you if they get a whif of "fresh" human scent... so if you have a good wind, then there should be no adverse effect to hunting a blind several hunts/days in a row.

The other school of thought is that an area should be kept pristine and human scent free as possible. In this case, some think any human scent will spook the deer away whether fresh or not... some of our guys believe this, but it has not been my experience. I've walked all out in front of my stand area and spread corn, then climbed into the blind and before I can get set up, the deer are there. I will say that it seems that the does seem to get spooky before the bucks do.

I think it depends on the person... I've had stands in the same place for 10 years or more and they are hunted hard. On the flip side I had a friend that hunted with me for a few years and we had to move his stand 2 to 3 times a season.

I think the more you are "busted" the less the mature deer will return in daylight hours. Not to toot my horn, but I rarely get the full blown blowing and running and blowing some more, kind of busted. I think there are several times that I have been spotted, but they just couldn't quite figure it out and would come back ok. That being said, an unnamed friend of mine who happens to be in Illinois right now, has a father that says the deer have busted my friend so much that once a doe walked face first into the dang feeder leg because she was too busy trying to check out the stand that she had evidently busted someone in before
