    AC quasi emergency!!

SO all of the sudden my indoor part of the AC started making a new hissing sound, and now it is only blowing warm air. When I turn it off, it takes longer than normal to restart, and when it runs for a minute or so, the hissing starts again. Does this possibly mean it has somehow developed a leak in the refrigerant? Gonna be a little warm this evening!!

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

blower is moving air fine. it is not a squeaking like a bearing.

I would still see if the outside unit is working

the fan on the outside unit is turning just fine. Like stated earlier, it sounds like a leak in a tire, after the inside unit pressurizes(if it actually does that).

sounds like you may have an expansion valve that is not opening

The coil inside is probably frozen it makes a hissing noise, Turn on fan only and it will defrost it in minutes. Then turn the ac back on and you may get through the night . It will most likely freeze again. Take a look at inside coil to see if it is iced over when you hear the hissing. Clean inside coil or call service,, not an ac guy but have seen many problem ac units..Good luck

check and make sure all filters and condenser coil are clean, when the hissing starts does the unit immediately shut off?

thanks for the advice. the unit never stops running. it just hisses while it runs. filter is clean and i cannot even get into the coil area. too taped up, and i dont even know why. I have been running the fan only, i guess i will try the cool air part again.
