I disagree. They chose to camp in one state and hunt in another. Those states have different game laws. I don't blame the guy one bit for handing out a few warnings about what they could and could not do in the state he patrols. I think if you choose to camp in one/hunt in another you're taking the chance you might draw the attention of LEO's from one or both states.
absolutely. sounds like you met one of the GOOD GW'S with a good head on his shoulders. He could have sighted yall for all the things you posted Look at it for the gift it was and camp in the SAME state as you hunt Not sure why anyone would camp in another state to begin with, seems like problem right from the beginning.
I'm thinking it's a good thing he informed you of all of those laws before you went and messed up without knowing. He may have saved you a citation or two. I think I would've thanked him for the information as long as he wasn't being nasty or condescending while talking to you.
Overzealous is a good word to use here.
Thanks for sharing your Elk hunting story though.. cool stuff!
Lived in Utah and yes they are overzealous. A female GW tried her best to give me a ticket for hunting because I was in a friends truck driving away from a know hunting spot and he had 2 rifles in the truck. Thats a long story though LOL..
When I hunted elk in Oregon, they required proof of sex left on the meat (male organs) if the head/ antlers were removed. Cali requires all boned meat and no brain/ spine tissue or sex organs brought in the state because to date we gave not had CWD.
I called the head GW office in Sacramento and asked if I had to stop my truck at the border, open the cooler and hack off the bull's nuts, which state should I throw them into the bushes- or did the want to provide a garbage can there?
He laughed, read both state laws and said technically, I was correct. Still he did no know where to dispose of them.
Sounds like a funny farm out there. Is the freakin border painted on the ground between the states so you know which one you're in ? There should be some degree of game law reciprocity within a buffer zone along the border but that would make too much sense. I'll quit now before I say what I really think.
After thinking about this a bit... just have a question...
the issue as its being decsribed by the UGW.. is based primarily on animal disease CWD etc...
How exactly are they stopping the infected animals from crossing into UTAH naturally?
Wow. I can see a few of those things being reasonable but #2 is flat out ludicrous. You have to be able to get the elk home. Maybe he misinterpreted the true meaning of that particular law.
I hunted Baxter Pass, on the Utah/Color. border. There is no clear state line there. GW in the area advised us "If you don't know don't come here." Pretty blunt, we felt. There was no suggestions of how to stay clean. I guess as far as responsibility goes he's right.
