    The Book of Eli

We watched the movie this weekend. We enjoyed it and it was thought provoking. We actually talked about the movie for a while after it ended.

We didn't understand a few things, mostly because the voices were low and soft and we couldn't hear it. There were also several scenes in which we did not understand the importance of.

First - what was the deal about having to show their hands to prove they "weren't one of them"?

And, was Eli blind or not? I think not.

What was the symbolism with the cats?

Where / how did Eli carry the bow?

We never caught the bad guy's name, but how did he hurt Solera's mother? It looked like to us that he just pulled her hair.

I know the hand thing was that if the people had become cannibals there hands would shake from something that had to do from eating human meat. Later on in the movie when they hide in the old couples house the womens hands shake so bad she cant even drink a cup of coffee. Then she offers them some meat. Not sure on the other stuff.

I really really liked the movie!

apparentley shaking hands is from too much human meat consumption...

I believe he was blind... Walk by faith not by Sight...

not sure on the other 3 questions...

1st- people that ate humans tended to get the shakes like mad cow. Those crazy old folks were some. Remember the roast the lady found and made them a sandwich? Uh Yea that was from a grave they had in the back yard
2nd- yes he was blind, watch it again you will see small hints of it. Kicking stairs befor he steps up, walking into a corner of a chair that was right in front of him. In the beginning of the movie there was a dead guy in a car and he checked him for shoes, notice he felt with his hand and never looked
3rd- best I can tell that was one of the few things that survived
4- I think it broke down can't remember but I think the was a flash of him putting it together, maybe a second or two
Cant remember his name, Carnagee I believe. He did just pull her hair but threatened to do worse. I think the emotional and mental hunt was what was meant.

Good thought provoking flick. The old people eaters freaked me out for days.

...found nothing..other than the first cat was a sphynx cat..ties to Egypt i guess?Where / how did Eli carry the bow?
prop master gave it to him when he needed it in a scene.. (nothing found to explain this either)

Carnegie i think... thought he sent the daughter to sleep with Eli and if she didnt she'd kill her mother...cant really remember..

Great movie. Keep covered it pretty well. He was definitely blind. He was guided by faith. Solaras mom was also blind, and Carnagie was basically holding her captive. He threatened things against Solara to control her.

That is probably one of my favorite movies. Cool movie and the fact that he was blind made it even cooler. I think you are correct Keep. I remember seeing him with the bow and string in one hand and it looked like it had been broken down. The most glaring tip for the blindness was the braille Bible. He found it under a pile of rubble after "hearing a Voice" tell him where it was. For a sighted person to learn Braille without anyone to teach him is unlikely. He also walked by Faith not by sight...

Another reason he was blind is that he always waited for them to shoot first and then he would shoot.

It’s an action film, with a lot of violence and some swearing, so be warned if your kids are to see it. The cinema was pretty full when I went, and I smiled broadly when scripture was quoted in the movie. The script writers remind us that men might use words to manipulate others. However,”The Word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight.” (Hebrews 4:12-13). Old Denzel might wield a double-edged sword mightily in this story, but the Bible features as the most powerful and life-transforming element in it .

I just figured the cat was hairless frombeing in a 'hot zone' never thought of it a Sphinx.

I thought it was a great movie and we talked about it for several days. Very cool. My only questions was- it took him 30 years from starting his quest to finishing at Alcatraz? So it took him 30 years to walk from where? I haven't seen it in a long time, but I don't recall they ever said where he started from.

Had he committed a crime and was in our court system he wouldn't have gotten there any quicker.
