We headed out to our lease Monday to fill up feeders and check everything out and I got to tell you, I love air conditioning. Man it was so hot out there in the hill country and everything is just burnt up. I felt bad for our landowners because while we were there they loaded up their last 150 head of goats and took them to the sale. They've had goats for 51 years and are now getting rid of everything but about 20 cows. We helped them cut out some calves to take to auction yesterday. Well the grass is barren and all the tanks are dry as a bone. A lot of the cedar scrubs are turning brown and even quite a bit of cactus was turning yellow. It almost looks like fall. We have an old mercury thermometer on our cabins front porch and it read 102 everyday in the shade. Most of the deer we saw looked pretty poor. We have a concrete tank behind our cabin that has a leak in it. Everyday deer were coming down to get a drink and they didn't care if we were standing right there or not. So long story short, I'm really praying for the folks out there who are suffering during this drought. But on a happier note, we do have a good water flow out of one of our springs though. I made sure to set a tree stand up in a huge pecan on the banks of the spring bed! Anyway we had a good time and ate good. I did manage to whack one ratllebug and rabbit while we were there!

Alot of my neighbors are selling most of their stock as well. I'm not that far from Harper and our place looks the same. We are gonna try to ride it out and feed the sheep out til next spring. It may be prove to be futile but if everyone sells their stock they will have to replace them when (and if) the rains return. That's what I'm banking on.

It's bad out there...
Sounds a lot like my landowner this year. His place looks just like yours.
I have a lease work weekend this Sat and Sunday so we'll get to enjoy some of what you just did. Last Sat the forecast said 98-99 for this weekend. I checked it on Wednesday and its now 108-109 and holding strong......I never thought I would be praying for 99 degrees...
Looks like another deer lease weekend night shift to get stuff done.
