    An update on my situation...

Well, some of you might remember that I moved to Florida to take a new job. I have been here in Tampa now for over a month and all is generally going well. The new job is "okay" and the morning commute is pretty congested. I really like the area but it looks like I would end up in a subdivision as there just aren't many houses with land in this area.

The wife and kids are still in Tyler, TX trying to sell the house. That isn't going so well. Between the bad market, bad timing (school just started), and bad weather (HOT!) we haven't had many lookers.

It just so happens that I was contacted by a company in Dallas that I had sent a resume to a while back. They are really interested in hiring me on and the pay and benefits are better than in FL. It seems like the company would be a good fit and they are also offering for me to work at home some and to have flexible hours. In other words, I could probably keep the house in Tyler and not sell. We only have 6 years and it would be paid off.

Problem is, I would hate to treat this company in FL so poorly. They just hired me and I hate the idea of just walking away so quickly. Secondly, I hear horror stories of the traffic in Dallas and I'm not sure if I would like working in the area.

So, for the guys in Dallas, how bad is it to work in the downtown area? The office is near the intersection of 75 and Mockingbird Lane, basically right next to SMU. Anybody know that area?

Good to hear from you Todd, wondered how you were doing and if you had time to troll the GS

Can't give you any advice on Dallas, just a dumb country boy that tries to stay away from the big city as much as I can

Good luck whatever decision you make

I used to work south of 75 and Mockingbird and it can be congested just like any major city. I'm not going to sugar coat it....some days its decent and some days it flat out sucks. It really depends on when you leave and what time you come in. If you leave at 4ish or 6ish to come home, you stand a much better chance than 5....coming in is the same. Any wrecks and the time doesn't matter.

Traffic in Dallas is no different than any other city. All depends if you going in or out and where you live. Mockingbird & 75 would get busy in any direction at rush hour.
I turned down a job in Clearwater, FL a couple of years ago and went to Houston instead. Something about Florida just didn't seem to fit. If you want just live with the traffic.
If you can swing it keep the Tyler place. Nothing like not having a mortage payment, you never know what life will bring you.

Great to hear from you Todd. As for the company in FL, although they may care, they won't put your family's future above theirs. As such, you shouldn't put their future above your family's. Consider all your options, and do what's best for you and yours. Miss you brotha'.

On a side note, (no pun intended), I'm still keeping that Kahr close...

If you need to work a few days in Dallas, get a room nearby and cut out the headache of commuting. Otherwise, it will get old real fast. Oh, and treat yourself to Cowboy Chicken on Greenville, not far from where that job is!!!!!
                Good luck in your decision.

You know you want to come home to Texas!!!!!

A daily drive from Tyler to Dallas would stink after a while. But you said you could work at home some. Would you have a gas card? That would be close to 200 a week on gas.

I say take the deal in Dallas, keep the house and keep the stability in the family. If the FL company doesn't understand, it doesn't matter. Your family and their well being comes first. Sounds like God has a plan for you to stay in Texas.

Yeah, if apartments are available I would get a cheap one near work so the commute would be shorter. Is that area pretty good for apartments or is it fairly rundown?

With a paid of mortgage,You can buy a lot of gas for what a house payment would run you.

I wouldn't commute from Tyler; just too far. The idea would be to get an apartment for cheap near work, maybe even with cycling distance, and then go home and work when I can.

Praying for your guidance Todd. I know this is difficult decision. One you don't have to make alone.
