    Need AC transformer help.

The transformer on my inside AC unit went out and I can't find one locally. It is 240 v in, 24 out, and 10 amp. It's the 10 amp that everyone tells me is an issue. Can any of you AC guys help...

Have you checked the 10am fuse? Most are just car style fuses in them.

This one has the barrel style fuses, 25 yrs old.
Yes i checked them to make sure the power was getting to the transformer.
The thing i think messed up the transformer was the control wires going into the outside unit had bare spots and touched. ???

a 240v/24v. 50va. transformer, should be good for controls on a residential unit..I work on large commercial equipment never seen a 10amp trans.for control voltage...50va should do it.......

Don't worry about the va,get a 50 va with a breaker reset,That way if you have another short, you just reset breaker after wire repair.

Good enough, i'll go to the parts house and pick one up along with some electrical tape. Maybe i can cool this thing off. The winds from the river are just not enough...
                Thanks,

10-4 on the what blew it, it looked like bare wires. can not afford to many of these as the AC service man told me over the phone he wanted to charge 130 for it. That was when i figured out i could look into it myself. I have delt with ac in a past life, 30 yrs ago. Maybe the inline fuse option is not a bad idea also, i have some auto fuse holders...

Like the others said just get a standard tranformer. If you can't get one with a circuit breaker you can crimp some female spade connectors inline then use an automotive ATC fuse. Regardless make sure you fuse the output if your not sure about the problem being corrected.
