I am rerigging all of my duck decoys to Texas rigs and I have decided to make my own weights. I have a lead melting pot and a mold for a four ounce drop weight, but the only problem is that I need the lead to melt. Gander Mtn. has a 14 oz. block of lead but it is $7.99. I am wondering where I can get cheap scrap bulk lead if any of ya'll have access to any please let me know and I would be willing to pay, even a bulk supply of use wheel weights would work, or can ya'll suggest anything else?

Wheel weights from tire shops and from the car dealer service dept is the best place to look. Most will just give you the lead for free. My buddy worked at a ford house and he would give me five gallon buckets full of wheel weights. Just make sure when you melt your lead down to get all the zinc wheel weights out. If you do get some in your pot they will float to the top in the beginning.

Second tire shops. Also recommend going to scrap yards. Friend goes by scrap yards and on a regular basis and said that lead has gone way up recently. Right now pure lead is going for about $1.00 a lb and wheel weights are going for around $0.75 if they split it out (some yards just sell is all as lead at the same price). Just giving you a feel for where bulk pricing is.
