My family and I are moving to TX from WI this weekend. Wife was awesome enough to make sure I have a lease already so I don't miss any hunting. I have never used a feeder and know nothing about them other than you get what you pay for. Looking to get some feedback on what's good and what's not in the 225 dollar range, where to buy them within 1.5 hours of Kingwood. Thanks in advance and look forward to meeting some you all. Eric

You my friend, have an awesome wife!!!
Mine would make sure that we moved to where there is pavement and shopping for 3 hours in every direction with no chance of hunting anywhere....
To answer your question, anything in the $225 range should work better than fine.
I built my own feeders and spent maybe $50-$75 total and they haven't failed me in about 4 yrs and counting.
Good luck to you this season and welcome to the greatest state in all the United States!

Welcome to Texas! I moved here from Fennimore, WI about 6 years ago. You picked a good time to move, the heat of summer is almost over. I have used Texas Hunter Products feeders and had really good luck with them. I think they are a little higher than your price range though. It seems as if you get what you pay for though. I have seen a few of the cheaper ones not perform.
Have fun moving, I don't envy you on that account.

Thanks for all the replies so far, she is a keeper that's for sure. That's why this WI boy married a Texan, she puts up with my lone obsession. Got the Army moving me, so all I have to worry about are the family and dogs. Lease I am going to is now full I think and there other hunters. Alot different than what I am used to, but its going to be fun none the less. Keep the ideas coming please!

For that price I'd build my own. Get a clean 55 gallon steel barrel then get this:
and this:
and this:
and this:
That puts you at $212 (plus whatever the barrel costs.......usually not much at all). Then just add a solar panel from Academy ($25) and some legs (price just depends on what you can find). If you still have some play money left over I'd get an eliminator spin plate or a varmint guard. That will get you a VERY good feeder with a fantastic timer.
That's what I would do for that price range.
By the way, welcome to Texas. I think you're going to like it here.
