I had mine right behind the cab on my 2500 hd. It was a short fiberglass whip that just stuck above the cabe a couple inches. It worked fine.

On my chevrolet, I had one mounted right begind the cab..... ran the intenna wire through the vents between the bed and cab. then down and under the plastic on the floor plate of the door

        worked out great

Back when I used to run a cb, I had the antenna mounted on the front edge of the bed, center of the cab. Like said above, it worked fine.

The only time I ran anything other than that was when I was running stuff I wasn't supposed to have (equipment wise).

You should see the look on the clerks face when you key your mic and the cash register pops open......

I think tuning the system is more important than location. Dang, it's been so long I don't even remember the terminology. SWRs I believe.

I have mine mounted on the side of my bed box just behind the cab on a 2004 Chevy. It extends about a foot above teh cab and I get great distance with it. Had a Bronco before it that I made a bracket so it sat just opposite of the radio antenna to the side of the hood.

Yep, SWR...Standing Wave Radio meter. They're not very expensive...I've got one in my garage. I have a CB radio but haven't hooked it up in years.

Wikipedia has a lot of good information on the technology:

or prob get it done at a decent radio shop (if you can find one) for $20 or something. I used to run a cobra 29 classic and had it peaked and tuned and echo mic thrown in and that thing would reach out and touch someone....I think I had that done at Clay's up near weatherford and they did me a good job.
