    Feeders and the drought in ETX

    I'm hunting in East texas and usually don't hunt right on a feeder, due to a high population of hogs.

    What is everyones opinion for this year with the drought? Chances are there won't be an acorn crop to spread em out. Do you think the big boys are more likely to visit feeders?

    I bet they do but i bet it is after dark. You never really know though. Ive seen nice deer under feeders here in SE Tx. Probably depends on how pressured the deer are.

      I just started running one due to the need for food but I put only throwing a the min due to hopefully avoid to much hog traffic and cost of corn. We will see what happens. My FIL has been hand corning a spot and has had 5 bucks showing up with the 2 biggest going in the 140s and that's in the palestine area so I think they wikk have to come to them especially after the rut!

          We've had just enough rain to keep water in our 3 tanks. "May" last till after season if we don't get rain. May not...
          But we noticed last weekend that we have acorns growing. Might get out and put up a hang-on or 2 in the oaks before I have my surgery and hope I pick the right stand of'em...

            I think with the lack of browse and acorns they are going to hit the feeders hard. Also believe because they are being hit hard if they snooze they loose being that there won't be a lot left.

              Well they have been hitting my feeders very well, pigs too of course. But I do have a spring fed creek that is still going strong. So we do have plenty of water.

                it is always tough to tell, been along time since we have had a summer like this one. I guess the question is where is the closest water? I might set up on the trail leading from the feeder to the water. It is going to be a challenge for everyone

                    i've determined the following on the years in regards to east texas (my area at least):

                    feeders=does, fawns, young bucks
                    hand thrown corn=everyone, including the big boys, with usually a lot of date time visits.

                        I posted a thread earlier with pics from my feeder on my property out in Anderson county, In about 2 weeks with 400 something pictures I didn't have a single hog and only 2 coons. The rest were a bunch of doe some fawns and a few nice bucks.

                        Disclaimer: THEE ARE NO DEER IN EAST TX THE DEER IN MY PICS ARE PETS ;-)

                          Had someone tell me the other day that there are acorns on the ground around the area that I hunt in east texas....don't know if they are very large or any other details.
