    Oryx Question

I have an opportunity to hunt these. I know there is a time table for them.

What is the the rules for these & can you still get them mounted for the wall or is there a rule about that too?

    Any info out there?

land owner will have to have permit to own them and i have heard thru a guide that hunting will be by draw only.

Will be bull only and must have large herd size. Very good table fare. Aim low and sneak arrow into forward chest.

This is incorrect. A lot of misinformation out there. USFWS basically proposed that they would go under the same permitting process as barasingha, arabian oryx, elds deer, and red lechwe. Land owners would be required to have a captive breeder permit to keep them, and a cull and take permit to harvest them. It's a lengthy process and the USFWS is generally slow to respond. We should know within the next month or so, unless the USFWS takes the public comments submitted seriously and decides to change direction.

IMO, if you shoot one now, get a dated reciept from the landowner, take a picture w/accurate date and time, whatever to have something to show that it was harvested before the rules went into effect as the taxidermy could last well beyond the date it goes into effect. This is going to be an inforcement nightmare for USFWS

I missed the boat on these animals. Hunted a place north of Austin two years ago and I could kill any and as many as I wanted for $500 a piece.

I remember oryx running wild on the White Sands Missle Range (New Mex)...I would quail hunt there and once walked up on a bull that was obviously panting heavily cause he had been running from me...
