Question about this years hunting license.

I went and picked up my hunting license for this year at academy. Did the regular pay at the cashier and then go to the table they have set up. The guy asks me for my driver’s license and if I have bought a license before. I give it to him and say yes. I make small talk asking him if he know if they put the hunter safety cert on the licenses yet or do I still have to carry this thing around? He says he doesn't know. (Kinda makes me think he doesn’t even know what I’m talking about at this point). Now I’m waiting for the questions. I’m ready to do a little bragging on my dove season last year, when he hands me my license and asks me to sign it. (again makes me think he doesn’t know what he is doing because I go straight to the reverse and sign it and he is trying to figure out if I did it right). Well now I’m wondering did they do away with that because no one could ever remember and who knows how accurate the numbers they were getting were? So I ask him, "Did they do away with all the questions?" He says I don’t know I guess. So I take off. I get home and pull out my old one from last year. It says HIP certified. I look at my new one and it says HIP certification required. Now I’m mad because I’m almost positive those questions are the HIP what ever it stands for and he never asked me.

My question is, do I need to go get them to fix it or am I fine. I don’t want to be informed that this guy was an idiot via a ticket form a GW.

If it were me i would do one of two things...carry both the license and hunters cert as usual or call the GW to confirm with them. I never get asked those questions either come to think about it but i always have my hunters cert card with my license.

Gotta have the hip cert. You need to go back and see the manager, I think.

Just to let you know I am sure they can just print a new license with it on it cause, the HIP is FREE.

          yes. you need it.

and you can't count on the guy at academy to do it for you. He also won't pay your ticket

Heres the other thread going on about it. They changed it this year and you have to ask for it. So yes you need to get it fixed if you plan on bustin some birds

Carrying your old license will do you no good, since it expires Sept.1. Go back and get the HIP cert done, and make them reprint!!

they didn't do away with it and yes you have to ask for it...especially when the guy behind the counter doesn't know to ask you about it...

As for the Hunters Ed card, there should be a number on your license(HE#*****). This informs the GW that you have passed Hunters ED. Last year whild duck hunting we had a GW check us out. My buddy went first and the GW asked to see his HE card. When he gets to me I have my license and HE card out. He looked at my license and never asked for my HE card. I asked if it was necessary to carry my card. His reply "Depends." If he sees it on your license, your good. He couldn't speak for other GWs. I will always carry it.

You'll have to get the license fixed. The game warden is not going to care about the stupidity of the person that printed the license. Since you talked about paying and then going to the table to get it printed I assume this was at an Academy. I can tell you from past experience working there that during the peak times of license sales they can't have the hunting guys selling all the licenses so the people at the table are usually just cashiers or people from the clothing department. Most of them have never looked in the regulations book and have no idea what all people require. The machine used to automatically pull up the hip certification and if someone wasn't going to hunt migratory birds then you had to press a key to bypass it. I'm not sure if they have changed the format in the past few years.

This is exactly why I will no longer get my tags from anywhere but the district office here in Tyler.

Too many idiots in the Academy, Wal-Mart, Gander Mountain etc that will cause you to get a ticket and they could care less
