I compared the archers choice and the 550 in store the other day. Both have the same optics, different electronics. The archers choice was ideal for bowhunting with angle compensation and working at ranges <20 yards. The 550 doesn't have angle compensation and didn't work well < 20 yards, and not at all under 15. It does have the advantage of being able to range further and cost a lot less.
If you rifle hunt at all and would use the rangefinder for that also, go with the 550. If cost is no issue and you will only be bowhunting with it, get the archers choice. In fact, if cost is really no issue, get the archer's choice max because it has the red display that is easier to see in low light or dark backgrounds.
I have the nikon 550 and love it. My only complaint is it can be hard to read the numbers in low light or dark backgrounds but I think that it with most of them. I looked at the archers choice and 550 but since I do some gun hunting I went with the 550 and have never looked back.
