Double C Ranch

Anybody hunt the Double C Ranch in Crystal City? I am going on a dove hunt and was wondering how it was. Thanks for any info.

I went there in March of 2010 on a hog hunt.

The place is very nice. The guides are good but they were really pushing to sell an exotic kill while you were there. Got a group of us down there on a cheap hog hunt price hoping to sell some exotics for a little more money which is fine I suppose.

The dove hunting should be very good.

Bring your fishing stuff. The pond at the headquarters is loaded with catch and release bass.

Got a crew staying out in front of the ranch right now. Tons of birds down here. Just hunt water because it is scarce. They have a great fishing pond as well.

Yes, the hogs were abundant. Lots of exotics and deer as well.

I was the only one in our group of about 15 or so that was bow hunting and they only had a couple of bow setups on the place.

First critter that walked by me was a cow elk.

Anyway, a group of hogs came in right before dark and took there time making it down the road to the feeder eating corn that they scattered out.

By the time they got to the feeder it was dark and my bow rig is not set up with lighted pins and stuff. I had to sillouete one in the red light they had hanging on the feeder.

Once I poked one then had to find it in the dark! Not fun as I didn't have a very good light. Just one of those little crappy cap LED lights that clip on the brim.

Funny part, in hindsite, was that the rest of the group paid my guide about $300 to leave me out there until after midnight! They did do a drive by on a near sendero crossing and drop me off a six pack of cobur! When I was walking the 300 yards to retrieve my beer they came in down another road and snagged my hog!

I could hear the music and partying going on at the headquarters but there was no way I was going to find my way back in the dark!

Plenty of taunting texts from them all night!
