Looks to big for a brown recluse to me.

Chuy, it is a wolf spider. A brown recluse is less hairy and has a velvet look to the body. You also can't miss the fiddle on their back.

Ya i had to holes in my face from a brown recluse one time and when i finally found him it was so small it was hiding in the end of an extention cord. It alo was slicked skinned and no hair. I had the doctor send it in, in a vial to be tested and it was a brown recluse.

Brown recluse are much smaller and do not have hairy legs.
What does the bite look like?
Did he see this spider (pictured) on him?
It could still be he was bit by a brown recluse but saw this spider instead. Depends what the bite looks like.
