    Farm Truck license plates

I am looking into getting farm truck license plates for my truck and I wanted to make sure I am not breaking any laws. I read online that it has a few requirements, basically used for farm use and not used for transportation to and from another job. Can I use the truck to go to the deer lease or to haul my camper to a family campout? My truck is used on our little ranch and only leaves the land for farm related trips, to go to the deer lease, or to haul the camper. It is not a daily driver. It just sits in the yard collecting dirt.

You can get farm plates and save a couple bucks on registration

People run around everywhere with farm tags on their trucks. I even had them on mine in high school. Legally I don't think the vehicle is supposed to be on a paved road if it has the farm tags because you aren't paying anything toward road upkeep.

Remember this phrase: Furtherence of a Commercial Enterprise

If you are using a farm tagged anything in a way that benefits a business then you are in the wrong.

Pretty much all of the rest of the time it is cool. Even on a paved road. Gotta haul that hay on the highway!

From what I understand your good to go as long as you are not useing the truck for another occupation or for transportation to another job other that farm work.

What happens if I hunt in another state? Is there going to be a problem?

Does anyone know the difference in cost of tags? I can't find it on TXDot.

You are going to save between 50-75 off a regular pickup by using the farm tags.

I think he is saying the money is not worth the worry over what you can and can't use the truck for.

You cant take it to Colorado with some major hastle. We had farm tags on a borrowed trailer and the Highway partol made us out a nice printed form to continue down the road with. (a ticket)

I guess that makes sence. I save $50 a year, but I can't use my truck how I want.

...but when it catches up to you it may not be just a fine or a ticket. They can lock it down till you change the tags.

I can’t count the number of Farm use plates that I have seized or assisted in seizing. Yep, we took them off the truck right there on the side of the road or in the parking lot. Vehicle could not be operated until it was re-registered with correct plates…… that’s not counting the ticket.
