    Crossing a river/creek?

We have a creek running through our lease, and there is a couple areas that are not easy to get to on one side of it. But you can see the spot from the other side of the lease with out a problem. Only problem is the creek is about 10-15' "deep" with banks that pretty much are straight down, but the water in it is normally around a foot or so flowing through it. I'd say its about 15-20' wide most of the way down.

I was wondering if anyone has ever built a small bridge to get across something like this and if so how did you do it?

We have the same problem. We use a small Jon boat to cross. I hate that boat crossing. I'm curious to see what ideas are posted on this subject.

Telephone poles and 2"x12"s are your friend for a foot bridge

I've never built a bridge, but if I were to do one, I'd probably build it on the accessible side, boat over to the other side and hook a winch up to a tree, then try to drag the bridge across, then cable it to trees to keep it in place and from being affected much by soil erosion. There's probably a better way

I built a small foot bridge over one of the feeder creeks using a 2 x 12, probably 8 feet long. Drilled holes in each end and anchored it with rebar stakes. never attempted anything larger though.

foot bridge is all i'm looking for. Just something for me and a deer to get across on.

How long are telephone poles and where can they be bought from. will that make a 20' span and not sag over time?

you might want to add a sign so the deer don run each other off the bridge, JAT

no really though for 20ft span, with a 200lb man you may want to consder a laminated beam. o be safe JAT you might cross with a deer in tow one day.

i wouldnt trust a 2x12 for that span

I took a 20' extension ladder once and tied plywood strips on it all the way across. It got a little bouncey in the middle but it work great matter of fact it's still there lol.

Here ya go...might need to weld some beams on each/one end to lengthen them.

I have used an old mobile home frame that I got pretty cheap and screwed a floor on it but I didn't have to go 20 feet only about 12
                          Fourwheeler went across good though
