    Building structure in our pond

Our big pond is about 85% gone. Some areas where it is dry will have 15ft of water in normal years. I am going to cut some big cedars tomorrow and build a couple piles that will be 5-10ft under the surface when we get back to normal.

    Any other ideas?

I was thinking about 50 cinder blocks and some mud and build some pyramid type structures that would be about 3-4ft tall that the fish could swim in and around.

I have many times seen old rusted out cars and trucks... MINUS the battery, Motor, Fuel Tank.... For artificial structure in ponds. If you got an old gutted frame lying around.

If you have any old tires, they make great structure.

You can tie themthree or four in a line (think hollow log), little concrete in the bottoms and drill some holes in the top so they won't float.

Place three in a triangle formation with one laying on the ground and two more coming up in an "A" style. Bind them together, drill holes in the uppermost portion of the all three tires, a little concrete in the bottom tire.

tires, pallets, piles of old chipped up concrete, old cars. Just remember they will be an eye sore when the water does go back down.

You can also take 10 or so big truck tires and chain them together so they don't eventually lay flat.
They never rot or fall apart.

Exactly! I KNOW I will see this stuff again thats why I dont want any old cars, etc. I already have an old boat trailer I pushed in a few years ago. I can see the tires and it is bugging me. May put on the waders and go hook it up with a tow strap.

I have 6-8 old tires and about 15 of the 200lb mineral buckets spread around already. I think I know of a place that will give me all the pallets I want.

cedars will work but will only last a couple of years. bois d'arc trees will last 15 to 20 years!

Build some PVC trees. They are great and you will never hang up on them... and they last forever. I put some in our lake and they hold bass.

This. PVC is easy to work with and will last for ever.

Jeff, if you've never checked out the Pond Boss website forum, now would be a great time. Guy that owns it is from NE Texas.

If I was going to do it I would put something out that would be there a long time, definantly not pallets, barrels or any other stuff that would be gone in a few years.

Try the local water company or plumbing stores to get damaged or scrap pieces of PVC, also keep your eyes open for old concrete culvert sections that are damaged to the point they cannot be reused, also bricks or blocks from demolition sites.

                              Just my .02
