    Rut in Laredo?

My buddy and I are planning a hunt down on a friends ranch outside Laredo and want to time our trip with the rut. He only gets a few days off and we would like to be there when the bucks are up and running. Anyone hunt that area and have any idea when all that mess starts heating up? Thanks.

Starts to heat up mid Dec and probably hits full steam by Chritsmas.

Yup, Dec 15th through the 25th or so is the general rule. Laredo is pretty spread out so the location does vary it a bit. I've taken almost all of my bucks rattling the post-rut in Jan but the rut is still excellent and it is already proving to be a great year down there.

I always thought that Dec 10-20 was prime time. My second choice would be the last week of the S.Texas season.

However...things seem to be a little off kilter this year in other parts of the state. It could be a week early.

Rut normally starts about December 13 but if I was bowhunting I would hunt prerut ...bucks are walking and marking territories, you see alot of different bucks during this time. We have package hunters come in pre rut and they have been 100% on opportunities. Rut is great but the bucks are moving and almost never still in one position, they nibble corn and take off after does. Its harder for a bowhunter. If I was to hunt It would be pre rut, odds are better imo

Look for it to fire off a little early this year, if I only had week to pick it would be Dec. 5 thru the 10. That's enough days after the full moon that enough does should be firing off to definately make it interesting.

I'm with Jerry. Hunt Pre and Post Rut if you are bowhunting.

Ditto what Jerry said as well. Hunting the actual rut with a bow is tough. Pre-rut and post rut provide more shot opportunities.
