Hi Macie, well I have been hitting the woods real hard and haven't got a deer, that is ok. Everyday I go out I see something new. Youth rifle season was last weekend and my oldest son went out with his mom while I went out with the youngest with a crossbow. We all get up Saturday morning and have a breakfast of scrambled eggs and toast then we all get showers and then dress. It was about 45 degrees out. We get out to the stand and we all get settled in for the dawn. Right about 8 we hear the AR bark out....Boom. I look out to see if he got anything and he signaled no. I get settled back in and around 15 minutes later the AR speaks again.....Boom. I look out again and he signals that he missed. He was really bummed out. We all came in shortly after that. Went back out in the afternoon and didn't see anything. We went back out Sunday morning, the oldest boy got in the stand by himself and I volunteered to take the neighbors son with me in the ground blind. It was cold out like 35 degrees. At about 6:45 the neighbor boy says "deer". I look and sure enough there is a decent seven point out front 25yds. I get the 30-30 up on the rest and cock it for him. He takes his time (almost to much) the deer starts to walk off so I grunt at him and he stops and looks standing perfectly broadside. I am yelling "shoot" in my head, yet he still takes his time and the deer starts to turn away and walk towards the woods. I think oh no. I grunted again and no effect. Darn, tried again and this time he stopped and turned back toward us some giving a perfect quartering away shot. Boom!! The old 30-30 roared. I saw the hit and the deer run off. I knew he had just got his first deer. We wait 30 minutes to go tracking hoping maybe one would come out for my son, but he didn't have any such luck. So off the three of us go on the blood trail. A drop here and a drop there then another drop. The shooter looks up and says there he is and sure nough there he was. He was so happy.
