I shoot with both eyes open at 20 and 30. Have to shut one eye at 40. Seems to help me a little.

Both open for me. For hunting I think it has advantages because both eyes open gives you depth plus when the target is walking through the brush you have wide field of view and you can see that tree of limb that will "jump" in front of you with one eye closed.
Tell your son to keep them opened!!

I used microscopes a lot in the many Biology Labs I took in college. We were trained early on that when using a microscope for hours on end, it is much less tiring to leave both eyes open.

It really didn't take long at all to train our brains to simply ignore what the non-dominant eye (the one not on the microscope eye piece) was seeing.

If your son is using a peep sight, I feel sure his brain is doing the same thing.

I shoot Trad instinctively so my brain is using the depth perception from binocular (both eyes) vision while I'm focusing on the target. We don't use sights or even consciously pay any attention to where the arrow is in instinctive shooting. The arrow is only in my peripheral (unconscious) vision.

Shoot everything both eyes open. You don't have to worry about eyes not focusing or seeing little black dots after opening an eye that's been shut during aim. Takes a little getting used to but well worth the effort.

I never shot with both eyes open but it's something worth working on. Had a nice 10 come in right after legal shooting time but it was over casted and still fairly dark. Couldn't get the pin on him with one eye but I had been practicing using both and he now hangs on my fireplace.

Both open, that way you dont lose your peripheral vision and see that monster buck come into range (yet to happen but I can dream)

I'm right handed and left eye dominant. Was awesome for hitting in baseball, not so great in shooting sports! I've tried for years to shoot with both eyes open and flat out can't do it. It'd probably be easier for me to switch to shooting lefty.

Since I was 6 or 7! Seems like your son is in the majority on this one.

One eye closed here. Right handed, left eye dominant. Shoot a gun left-handed and a bow right handed. I`m all screwed up.

I took a tactical pistol class years ago and was taught to shoot both eyes open. It just seemed natural when I took up archery.
