I need to replace the front porch post on my house due to rot at the base. The post are 6x6. I bought some simpson composite post bases to prevent this from happening again. Problem is i'm not exactly sure how to install them. They look like you just screw them to the bottom of the posts through the 4 pre-drilled holes. Then there is about a 1" hole in the center. I should mention that the post go down to a concrete porch. I am guessing you are just supposed to drill a hole in the concrete and drive a bolt into it and then try to center the hole over the bolt. It just seems kind of sloppy to me. Anybody have any experience with these?
