Trying to pick a stand location

Im hunting on some public land here in N. Texas. I have hunted here the past 2 seasons and have tried multiple areas with no deer down. I was on the deer in most cases but also on other people too. I have picked out a particular section that I hunted the first season a lot and saw deer just about every hunt. I was thinking this season I would just pick one particular section of this public land and place a stand in there to hunt all season instead of jumping around to all of these new areas. I also have a few friends and family hunting this piece of public land that will be giving me reports on what they see in a particular area, so I dont feel as if I will miss seeing animals. If need be I will move to another area if there seems to be a better chance at killing a nice deer. I have attached a drawing of the section I plan to hunt this season. Where does the GS think I should place my stand! Or should I do something different!

    Thanks,
    Brandon

Also, we can bait here on this public land!

Sfa, is this in Red River County? I hunted Red River County for several years. What I try to do is hunt the wind. Public or private land. Dominant wind in Red River County is Eat to South normally....But whatever county, the wind direction is a big consideration.

    Good Luck

My advice would be to get further from the road.....

Kinda difficult to tell though without knowing the vegetation types below the bottom of your figure. Also, the private land you mention is is agriculture land or offer a good food source?

Just based on what you gave I would hunt on the creek bend or inside bend of the cedar thicket.

Rsatt, it isnt Red River County. Its actually Grayson county. But I was thinking about the wind alot and for this particular section a south to east wind would definitely not work. Haha So I dont know if this spot will work.

Bucksmasher, I was thinking about getting further from the road also but I see a lot of these deer cross this road and I was seeing probably an average of 4 deer per sit in this area, even when the wind wasnt right. I dont really no much about the private land other than its for sale and has a pond, but I think it would almost be like a sanctuary cause I have never seen anyone in there. From the road the private land looks really thick. I believe most of these deer are bedding in the cedars. Also, the land to the south of the creek is all private and has some woods that run along the creek and border of the fence that all leads into pasture.

If you are allowed access now I would go scouting for the best sign and place a stand there and then have at least 2 backup spots picked out for wind and other hunters snagging your best spot.
