    Internet/modem question

So I just moved into a new apartment that said they had free Internet. Well they do buy it's not wireless. I can plug directly into the wall and have connection but when I plug my router into the wall I can't find signal. I ask the office and they said I would have to upgrade through suddenlink to get wireless. Is there anything I can plug into the wall that will make it work? Do I need a modem AND a router? Does the modem have to be from Suddenlink?

Your wireless router should show up even if you are not connected to an ethernet line. The address usually will say linksys or router name. You might try a hard reset on the router, there is usually a small pin sized hole on the back, depending on the router, push for ten seconds to reset.
You should be seeing many neighbors routers too. Head for the pool with your laptop and see what shows up. Many folks will leave their wireless open too.
Also talk to your neighbors, some of which may be totally hot college girls...maybe one is a techie, fall in love, get married, bam, free computer advise for life.

Some places configure their routers to not allow WAP's (wireless access points) to be added to the network. This may be the case, however you should be able to see the router regardless if it is attached to the network or not when turned on. Do a reset of the router as mentioned above and start from there.

Lol well I'm getting married Friday and I don't think she'd be too keen on that idea.

Word of advice...remember where that button is, on consumer level routers you get to use it a lot sometimes.

I'll see how it works. Any router that I can but that would be better?
