being a long time trad shooter this is something i have wanted to try. the current tim wells thread has got me thinking. aside from bowfishing has anyone done this????

I started out by shooting a compound instinctive. Did that for probably 4 or 5 years and then went to sight/fingers, then sight/peep/fingers and finally the whole shooting match! This all happened many, many moons ago though.

I imagine that having eccentric wheel cams with a moderately soft wall makes it a lot easier! Of course, you don't see many factory bows with those anymore.

Derrick, I hunted with an Oneida Screaming Eagle for about 3 or 4 years. I shot it off the shelf just like a recurve. I took a ton of critters with that bow and had a lot of fun with it. My heart was always with the trad gear though and I eventually came back. Although the old Onieda's were a mechanical nightmare they were a dream to shoot instinctively.

Have a brother n law that shoots instinctively. Either perfect hit or complete miss.
He tried sights once and couldn't hit anything. Took them off after a week.

Sounds like my brother, he has been shooting compound bows instinctively since we were teenagers. He is good but put a sight on his bow and he can't to save his own life. lol

Shot many deer from the late 70s through early 90s that way. Also used a release most of that time (yeah, I know - heretical, right?).

Shooting pins now because I've gotten into the accuracy thing... plus age has a little to do with it.
