    Help me make a decision

We've got an 10 acre pond back in Rising Star thats about to go dry. Its never gone dry and its got some great big channel cat in it. The smaller ones are already starting to die. The cows and horses go to the pond but have water troughs to water from so they dont have to have the pond water for something to drink. Im trying to think of a way to save whats left of the fish. There is a well with no pump in it about 350' from the pond. Im considering buying a 3" trash pump that will run for 8 hours on a tank of fuel and pumps 14,560 gph. Water level in the well is at 36' and the overall well depth is 100'. Pumps will run about $560, suction hose about $175(planning on dropping in at about 60') and $200 for the discharge hose. Am I pissing in the wind?

Will this amount of water even make a difference?
I know it would take forever at that rate to fill it back up.
If the pump should happen to pump off the water and start pumping dry wouldn't it burn the pump up?
Am I better off just letting it go dry and then restocking after it fills back up? I just hate loosing a pond full of fish thats been there for over 50 years.

I am seeing a big fish fry at the skeeter ranch wild game cook off and cannonball contest

Just kidding......I would try and save the fish by pumping in some water......

Actually I hate to clean fish. I just hate to loose them since my grandpa stocked it and cared for them so long and now he and the pond are both almost gone.

how much is a rental pump and hose?

who's going to watch it and refuel it?

are all the fish in one deep hole right now?

$1000 bucks will buy a bunch of fish, only you can put a price on the sentimental value.....

I would try to save em just for sentimental reasons. Would it actually work? I dont know but it seems like you dont need to fill it up, just stop the loss. I hope it works out for you.

i don't know much about these pumps if they are able to draw up water from that deep. also since it has been dry how much water is in the well and avaiable. i guess the real question is, what would grandpa do?

Specs say the pumps have a Max Head of 98'. Does that not mean how far they will pull water from? The water level today was at 36' not when it was dug.

There was a guy the other day that had a 3 inch trash pump for sale.It was on The Texas Hunting Forum and I think The Texas Fishing Forum. Good luck.

Everything depends on the well. We have one that the top of the water is 12 feet deep and the bottom is 20 feet deep. It is an under ground spring.

We found that 14 days of pumping out 500 gph would empty the well and burn out our $50.00 motor.

You will have to sit on it and see what it does.....

I understand your dilema, but if you have a 10 acre pond, and it's nearly dry right now, in this heat, I doubt if you can save many of them no matter what you do.

Personally I would get grandpa and have a big ol family get together/ fish fry but that is just me

I also think the head is how much it will pump above the pump and lift is how much it will pull from but I am not 100% on that

I'd call a water well service/drilling company and ask them what your the best option would be.
