There would be some angry people if that passed in Texas.

IMO, it'll never happen in any state that already has significant numbers of hogs. AND IMO, it's a good law (edit: for those states currently without feral hog populations). Same reason CO won't allow red deer to cross thru the state - it poses a biological hazzard. LO's have options if they want to make money off hunting an 'exotic'. Hogs in new areas are a bad idea IMO.

Makes sense in states without hogs.

People bringing hogs in as exotics are what messed it up in the first place.

I think Michigan passed a similar law too- for the same reason mentioned above- to discourage peple from bringing hogs in to make a business out of hunting them. People up there say "well a hog would never survive our winter anyway". Hmm, that must be why they are thriving in Pennsylvania too. We all know how well they adapt to hostile habitats!

Apparently landowners in Texas don't think they are a big enough problem yet. Otherwise they would be paying people to come shoot them rather than the other way around.

In this economy, I can't really blame them for looking for another source of income... but yeah, I wish it was more reasonable.

But as I'd expect from a bunch of Texans, we're very defensive of our property rights; which I think is a good thing in most cases.

$20 reward sounds great but I think we could get it done for $5

When I was a kid we made money hauling hay and trapping animals.

Now they do the round bale thingy and trapping ain't worth nothing.

High school kids and ME would shoot pigs for $5 to help pay for gas, shells, and refreshments.

My cousing is a state trapper and he aggrees the only way to get rid or get numbers down is going to be some type reward system.

I'm going to get burned for this one but I kinda feel like if it was as big of a problem as everyone makes it out to be, farmers and land owners would be paying hunters to hunt pigs (after they had signed a release of landowner liability). That said I'm sure it is a problem for some people in some places and they'll probably chime in and tell me, but won't offer a free pig hunt

Basically I don't think it is sooo bad that the cost of pig damage exceeds the feeling that "hey I got something people want, I can make a buck off this"

As far as a law like this in Texas....haha people are way too greedy

and don't even try to buy allergy meds up there.

Heck, I am angry about much more significant laws but know one cares about them either. Hogs need to be eradicated quickly!

They should place a bounty on pigs in Texas.

Sad but True. Texas want make charging to hunt and harvest pigs illegal thats for sure. There are ranches where we hunt that have brought in pigs that have been trapped elsewhere, to sell hunts. This only spreads them and will cause many more problems than generating more money for ranchers. Look at what they have done with deer, they don't own the deer, but have created deers mills, with high fences. Charge extravagant prices only those hollywood hunters(TV huntin shows) can afford. Feed and inject hormones to produce genetically abnormal horn growth.

I think this act of animal experimentation is cruelty, that all those whom call themselves hunters should protest. Write your Congressman and complain this is not a fair chase hunt,"CANNED HUNTS" where there may be 100 acres are 1,000,000. I've heard all the arguments, but it all comes down to one thing "Big money." No record should be recognized by B&C an Pope & Young if animal was trapped in a containment (HIGH FENCE). Pope & Young and the B&C state all animals shall be taken by fair chase. It's wide spread and Texas is one of main leaders. Let's put a stop to this, if you don't stand for something you will fall for anything.... It's up to us Hunters to police our sport, don't fail the next generation..............

The fee landowners charge for pig hunts is more of an "aggravation" fee than a kill fee. As much damage as hogs can do, disrespectful people can do more.

$10 per set of 'yote ears didn't solve that problem, and $20 per pig won't solve that problem either.
