Dangit Stickman, let's go chase some reds soon!
It better be soon, once this tropical system gets in the gulf tides will blow up and the fish are going to scatter. Let me see if I can set something up for the end of the week.

I agree with everything Shane has said. Flourocarbon has its benefits over mono....more dense, better knot strenght, more abbrasion resistant and virtually dissappears in the water. However, a couple downfalls are the line doesnt stretch like mono...so that bit of "shock" absorbtion you get with mono, you lose with flouro. Also, its a little bit stiffer and less supple, but I only think that matters when using 6X tippet to spooky trout!
I also think your defeating the purpose of braid by tying on a flouro leader! Any time you have a knot in your line...that creates a weak point, regardless of the knot you use. that set up is only as strong as strong as that knot, so your spinning your tires forkin out the bucks for braid!
Im a HUGE believer in flourocarbon line...but if your skeptical and worry about the cost, go buy a spool of P-Line Flouroclear and try that. That is a mono based line with flourocarbon coating so you kinda get the best of both worlds!! Good Luck!!

I use straight braid up here on the upper coast. Our fish must be blind or stupid because they eat my lures and freelined live shrimp. I can see where it may be a concern down in the clear waters of S.TX. But why even use braid if your gonna put flourocarbon on the end, defeats the purpose of braid IMO.
